Dish Remote Not Working: How To Resolve guide

Is your DISH Remote Not Working? This guide will help you troubleshoot the remote and receiver using several tips.

A Remote control is an essential part of any electronic device as it allows for easy and convenient control of the device without having to access it physically. There are many kinds of remotes. There are also apps that convert an Android cell phone into a physical remote to control devices, and even some applications like Wako to control other applications like Kodi.

A DISH Remote, in particular, allows users to control the DISH network, which includes their television and receiver.

However, like any electronic device, the DISH remote control may encounter issues that prevent it from functioning properly. In this guide, we’ll explore various solutions to fix a DISH remote that has run into issues. These will range from simple troubleshooting tips, such as replacing the batteries, to more advanced ones, such as reprogramming the devices. By the end of the guide, you should be able to troubleshoot and fix your remote, ensuring smooth and seamless control of your DISH network.

How to Fix DISH Remote Not Working 🤔

Below are some troubleshooting tips you can follow.

Replace the Batteries

One of the first things to check if your DISH network remote control is not working is the batteries. If the batteries are weak, your remote may not receive enough power to transmit your keypresses to the TV. In that case, you will need to replace them with newer batteries. This can also be a quick solution in the case of Fire Stick Remote Not Working.

Note that the issue may still be misaligned batteries, so first, check if the batteries are inserted correctly.

Function Mode Key

Verify that the remote is in the correct function mode for the device you are trying to control. The function mode key (TV, DVD, AUX) is usually located at the top of the remote and should be set to match the device you are trying to control. Pressing the function mode repeatedly will cycle through the different modes, making it easy to find the correct one. In this particular case, set the function to TV control mode.

Pair the Remote

If replacing the batteries and checking the function did not solve the DISH remote not working issue, it’s possible that the remote needs to be paired with the DISH Network receiver.

To pair the remote, locate the “Menu” button on the DISH Network receiver and press it. Navigate to the “System Setup” option and select “Remote Control.” Follow the on-screen instructions to pair the remote. If successful, the remote should now be able to control the DISH Network receiver.

Restart your receiver

Restarting your receiver can often fix any software issues that may be causing problems with the remote. To do so, unplug the receiver from the power outlet and wait for a minute or two before plugging it back in. Once the receiver has restarted, try using the remote again to see if it is now working properly.

Reset the receiver

Resetting your receiver can solve most audio/video, signal loss, hard drive, and remote issues. To reset it, unplug the power cord from the back of the receiver and wait for at least 30 seconds. After that, hold down the power button, reconnect the power cord, and wait for the display to turn on. While still holding it down, you will see a message that says “Reset Receiver.” You can now release the Power button and press the Select button to continue setting it up.

Get a Universal DISH Remote

If none of the above troubleshooting steps have worked to fix your DISH remote, the problem may be with your remote. Maybe it has been dropped one too many times, had some liquid spilled on it, or had some other hardware issues.

In such a case, you should consider getting a universal remote. A universal control remote can be programmed to work with multiple devices, including your DISH receiver, TV, and other electronic devices. This can be a convenient solution if you have multiple remote controls for different devices and want to simplify your setup. However, before purchasing, you must ensure that the universal remote you choose is compatible with your DISH receiver and TV model.

Programming DISH Remote

There are two basic processes you can use to program your DISH remotes, depending on the model.

Program New DISH Remote Controls

Here’s how to program Dish remote to TV:

  • Press the Home button on your DISH remote twice. If your remote lacks a Home button (model 40.0 and above), press the Menu button once instead.
  • Select Settings from the on-screen menu.
  • Select Remote Control.
  • Use the on-screen menu to select the device you want to pair.
  • Select the Pairing Wizard menu option. This is the easiest method as it guides you through the process.
  • Now, scroll through the on-screen menu to find the brand of the TV or other device you’re pairing. Ensure you select the right brand, as the wizard will require pairing codes at some point, and they vary from brand to brand.
  • The pairing wizard will now walk you through testing a series of device codes for the device you want to pair. Follow the on-screen instructions to test each code.
  • Test all your remote functionalities to avoid any disappointments later.

Program Older DISH Remote Controls

Here’s how to program Dish remote to TV:

  • Point your DISH remote at the device you want to pair.
  • Press and hold the function button on the DISH remote corresponding to the device you want to program (TV, DVD, or AUX). After about 10 seconds, you should see all four Mode buttons light up. When they do, release the button, and it will start blinking.
  • Press and release the Power button on the DISH remote. The blinking Mode button should now turn to a solid light, signaling that the remote is ready for programming.
  • Press the Up directional button on your remote to send the first code.
  • Keep pressing the Up button every few seconds until the device turns off. If you are using the right code, it should turn off.
  • Press the # button to save the code to memory. The Mode button should blink several times.
  • Test all your remote functionalities to avoid any disappointments later.

Contact Dish Network Support

If none of the above solutions work for you, it may be necessary to contact Dish Network support for further assistance. A representative from the company can help troubleshoot the issue and provide additional solutions or instructions. They may also be able to send a technician to your location to fix the problem in person. Be sure to have your account information and the model number of your remote and receiver on hand when you call.

Wrap Up

A Dish remote not working can be a frustrating problem to deal with. However, by following the steps outlined in this guide, you should be able to resolve the issue and regain control of your TV viewing experience. Remember that it might not be a single solution that fixes the problem, so you might have to try more than one solution before finding the one that works for you.
