Preakness Stakes Leading Contenders
While the race not be as popular among the mainstream viewers as the Kentucky Derby, it remains an extremely popular betting race among followers of the sport. The leading contender for the Preakness Stakes comes in the form of Mage.
The Kentucky Derby winner is as short as 3/2 for Gustavo Delgado, who will be chasing only a second Triple Crown win. A victory for Mage would also set up a shot at destiny in June, as a run in the Belmont Stakes could complete the Triple Crown.
The biggest danger to Mage looks to come in the form of First Mission. This runner for Brad Cox bypassed the Kentucky Derby last month, but he remains a realistic contender after landing a dominant success in the G3 Lexington on his previous start.
National Treasure is also a likely runner at Pimlico after bypassing the Kentucky Derby. The runner for Bob Baffert was last seen finishing fourth in the G1 Santa Anita Derby. Meanwhile, the only other likely contender that was last seen at Churchill Downs comes in the form of Disarm, who took fourth in the Kentucky Derby.
Other potential runners in the Preakness that are available at bigger prices, include Perform, Blazing Sevens, and Red Route One.
